As the National Resistance Movement (NRM) gears up for the 2026 general elections, a wave of aspirants has emerged across the country, with Mungu Patrick officially joining the race for Elgon North Constituency in Bulambuli District. On June 12, 2025, Mungu picked nomination forms at the NRM Electoral Commission headquarters in Kyadondo, expressing firm commitment to lead with purpose and bring lasting development to the region.

The expression of interest process, which opened on June 2 and runs until June 15, 2025, marks the initial stage of internal party democracy within the ruling NRM. According to NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi, official nominations are slated for June 17–30, 2025.

Key Development Priorities: Health, Roads, and Economic Recovery

In a passionate appeal to voters, Mungu Patrick outlined his vision for Elgon North, pledging to address some of the region’s most pressing challenges. Chief among these is the dire state of healthcare infrastructure.

“I will lobby for a hospital in my Constituency because many women suffer in labour due to inadequate health facilities,” Mungu stated.

Beyond healthcare, Mungu emphasized his dedication to infrastructure development, promising to advocate for the rehabilitation of worn-out roads and improved accessibility across the constituency.

“When you support me, I will lobby for a better road network and rehabilitate the worn-out ones. It is the duty of an MP to supervise district and sub-county work, and I will do just that.”

Drawing from the district’s once-thriving economic history, Mungu vowed to reignite Bulambuli’s potential and surpass regional neighbors in development indicators.

“I will return Bulambuli's lost glory economically. We were once better than Kapchorwa. Instead of our people going to hospitals in Kapchorwa, we need to build and equip more in Bulambuli.”

He further promised to adopt a people-centered approach to leadership by physically reaching out to communities across the constituency.

“I will traverse the whole Elgon North Constituency and visit people door-to-door, getting feedback that I will present in Parliament.”

Mungu’s campaign message aligns with the core roles of a Member of Parliament, which include:

Legislation: Debating and passing laws to guide national development. Representation: Presenting constituents’ views and concerns in Parliament.

Budget Approval: Analyzing and passing the national budget, including loan approvals.

Oversight: Monitoring the use of public funds and ensuring accountability among government institutions.

With the NRM primary season heating up, Mungu Patrick’s entry into the political arena is expected to stir significant grassroots engagement. His development-driven platform and people-first approach are likely to resonate with many residents of Elgon North who yearn for improved services and economic revitalization.

As the nomination period approaches on June 17, Mungu has called on his supporters to append their signatures in support of his candidacy, urging unity and collective action for the transformation of Bulambuli District.

“Together, we can build a better future. Let’s restore the pride of Bulambuli,” he concluded.
