Chancellor Kagonyera Underscores Role of Higher Education in Nation Building at KU 26th Graduation

Kampala University (KU) marked a major milestone on Thursday with the celebration of its 26th graduation ceremony, held at the university’s main campus under the theme “Celebrating 26 Years of Effort Advancing the University to Make KU Great.”
The ceremony was graced by the Minister of State for Primary Education, Hon. Dr. Joyce Moriku Kaduchu, who served as the Chief Guest.
Speaking at the event, Chancellor Prof. Mondo Kagonyera applauded the university’s commitment to providing quality education for over two decades.
He noted that KU has consistently advanced in academic standards and embraced innovation, including the integration of modern technology into its learning systems.
“We are deeply honored to have Minister Kaduchu join us for this significant occasion. Her presence reflects the value and importance the government attaches to education,” said Prof. Kagonyera.
He expressed gratitude to the founder of the university for his visionary leadership, acknowledging the significant financial and managerial challenges involved in running a private institution of higher learning.
Prof. Kagonyera emphasized that universities play a vital role in shaping the future of the country by equipping students with both academic knowledge and practical skills.
He called upon graduates to remain conscious of the political and economic dynamics shaping the modern world.
“Young men and women graduating today must understand that critical thinking, adaptability, and the ability to analyze new perspectives are as essential as technical know how,” he noted. “It is not enough to acquire hard skills; soft skills such as communication, teamwork, and emotional intelligence are key drivers of success in the job market.”
Addressing concerns raised by the private sector about the mismatch between education and employment, the Chancellor stressed the importance of skilling initiatives.
He, however, urged for closer collaboration between the government, universities, and industry to bridge the gap.
As KU looks to the future, its leadership reaffirmed their dedication to academic excellence, innovation, and national development.
The graduation ceremony concluded with the conferral of degrees, diplomas, and certificates across various disciplines, marking a proud moment for graduates and their families.
