DP Ready for National Delegates Conference Amid Tight Security Mao Warns Against Disruption

Democratic Party (DP) President General Norbert Mao has announced the party’s full readiness to host its highly anticipated National Delegates Conference slated for May 30th in Mbarara. Mao assured all invited delegates of maximum security and a well organized event that will focus on strengthening party leadership through democratic elections.

Speaking at the DP headquarters in Kampala on Wednesday, Mao emphasized that only officially invited delegates will be granted access to the venue, highlighting that the event is reserved for serious political engagement and not theatrics.

"The time for comedy is over. If anyone thinks they can turn the Mbarara conference into a stage for drama, they will regret it," Mao warned. "This is a crucial moment for our party. We are here to elect leaders, address issues through the proper channels, and uphold the dignity of DP."

Mao recalled the events of 2020, when former DP member Sulaiman Kidandala, instead of assuming his duties, reportedly diverted the party’s delegates register to the National Unity Platform (NUP), sparking chaos within party ranks. "What followed was a group of hooligans storming our offices shouting 'We want Bobi Wine!' That was not just an act of disorder it was an attack on our constitutional integrity," Mao said.

He stressed that the DP constitution has built-in safeguards to address member grievances and maintain internal discipline. "There are legitimate ways to express dissatisfaction within the party. Hooliganism is not one of them," he added.

In a stark reminder of Kidandala’s current fate, Mao revealed that the former politician is now imprisoned in South Korea over charges related to human trafficking. "He failed politically and has now turned to criminality. Those who come to disrupt the political process are not activiststhey are spoiling the tournament of politics," Mao stated firmly.

Despite internal challenges, Mao reaffirmed that DP remains committed to resolving disagreements through formal party organs. "Our party has issues, like any other, but we resolve them through established structures not noise or chaos. And we have never expelled anyone without due process," he clarified.

As the conference date draws near, Mao’s message is clear: the Democratic Party is focused, prepared, and determined to safeguard its integrity and future.
