Hoima-Hoima City has ushered in new leadership within the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, as Eng. Jonard Asiimwe was declared the NRM City Chairperson during the party's internal elections held early this week, at Kitara Secondary School. The elections were marked by a peaceful atmosphere and high cooperation among participants.

Eng. Asiimwe, the CEO of Jonard Conglomerate, was elected unopposed, reflecting strong support from party members in Hoima City. In his acceptance speech, he expressed gratitude to the NRM members for their confidence in his leadership and pledged to work collaboratively to strengthen the party's presence and unity in the city.

 

Other key positions filled unopposed included:

Vice Chairperson: Friday Beatrice

General Secretary: Joseph Senkiga

Finance Secretary: Aramathan Mugisa

The position of Publicity Secretary saw a contest between Muhammad Kihimba and Godfrey Byaruhanga, with Kihimba securing a decisive victory by 85 votes to 2.

In the Women's League, all positions experienced a unique situation where candidates tied with equal votes. To resolve the deadlock, election officers, led by NRM City Registrar Sarah Kobusinge, implemented a lot-drawing method. Candidates picked sheets labeled with numbers, and those who selected the winning number were declared victors. This approach ensured fairness and maintained the peaceful nature of the elections.

 

The elected Women's League leaders are:

Chairperson: Hellen Azikya

Vice Chairperson: Rosemary Ayampaire

General Secretary: Alice Tugume

Publicity Secretary: Hanifah Pauline Kabayaga

Finance Secretary: Mildred Ngozi

Hellen Azikya emphasized her commitment to mobilizing women in Hoima City for development initiatives.

Youth and Other Leagues

The Youth League elections concluded with Sylvia Kaahwa winning the chairperson position, garnering 7 votes against Julius Muwanguzi's 3 and Jim Atuhura's 1.

Other leagues, including those representing the elderly, veterans, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and workers, did not hold elections as candidates were elected unopposed through mutual agreements.

Advocacy for the Elderly

Dr. Lawrence Bategeka, former Member of Parliament for Hoima Municipality, attended the elections and pledged to advocate for the elderly, particularly those above 80 years, to benefit from government programs. He also encouraged the formation of Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs) to improve the livelihoods of senior citizens.
