UNATA Hails Museveni and Jane Barekye for Skilling Hubs, Urges Market Support for Youth Products

The Uganda National Traders Alliance (UNATA) has commended President Yoweri Museveni and State House Controller Ms. Jane Barekye for the successful rollout of skilling hubs across the country.

The initiative, implemented under the State House, has significantly empowered thousands of young Ugandans by equipping them with hands on skills in various trades, boosting their chances of employment and self reliance.

According to UNATA, the skilling hubs have become a cornerstone in the fight against youth unemployment, offering practical training in areas such as tailoring, welding, carpentry, baking, and hairdressing.

These centers have not only helped the youth to discover and develop their talents but have also given them a pathway to start small businesses and generate income.

However, while addressing journalists in Kampala, UNATA Chairperson Godfrey Katongole urged Ms. Jane Barekye to take the next crucial step  helping the youth find sustainable markets for their products.

“The

y have been a great success, but now we need to focus on what happens after the training. These young people need a market for their products. We appeal to Ms. Barekye to support efforts in advertising and promoting these goods to prevent post-training unemployment,” Katongole said.

He proposed that the government should establish dedicated market stores in every major city to showcase and sell goods produced by youth from the skilling hubs. This, Katongole noted, would not only improve their incomes but also encourage more young people to enroll and benefit from the program.

Katongole also called for the continued expansion of industrial parks to complement the skilling initiative, emphasizing that increased industrial activity would create more job opportunities and accelerate Uganda’s economic growth.
