Counsel Steven Nagimesi has officially expressed interest in representing the people of Elgon North Constituency in the 12th Parliament, picking nomination forms under the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party ahead of the 2025 general elections.

Speaking shortly after collecting the forms, Nagimesi hailed President Yoweri Museveni for ushering in democracy in Uganda, urging voters to continuously uphold democratic values by electing their leaders through peaceful and transparent processes.

“President Museveni brought democracy to Uganda. I appeal to all voters to please vote for me and continue choosing leaders through the democratic process,” Nagimesi said.

Advocating for Agricultural Transformation

Nagimesi emphasized Bulambuli’s agricultural potential, particularly in Arabica coffee production. He noted that the district boasts some of the finest Arabica coffee in the region — a resource he termed as a "money venture" capable of transforming local livelihoods and the district economy at large.

“The best Arabica coffee comes from Bulambuli. This is a money venture we must harness to spur economic development in our communities,” he stated.

Commitment to the Core Roles of Parliament

Nagimesi pledged to effectively execute the four constitutionally mandated roles of a Member of Parliament if elected:

Legislation: “I will actively participate in debating and passing laws that strengthen national institutions and support sustainable development.”

Representation: “My voice will represent the real concerns of Elgon North, ensuring that no community is left behind in national policy considerations.”

Budget Approval: “I will critically analyze the national budget and ensure resource allocation reflects the needs of the people.”

Oversight: “I am committed to ensuring transparency and accountability by monitoring government activities and exposing any misuse of public funds or violations of the rule of law.”

Rising Political Interest in the NRM

Nagimesi joins over 2,000 aspirants who have so far collected expression of interest forms in the NRM’s ongoing candidate selection process. According to data from the party’s Electoral Commission, the majority of these hopefuls seek to become NRM flag bearers for directly elected parliamentary seats, district woman MP positions, and Special Interest Group (SIG) slots.

The expression of interest window remains open until June 15, with official nominations set to begin on June 17. These developments reflect a growing wave of political enthusiasm within the party base, ahead of what is expected to be a fiercely contested general election season.
