Wambedde Robert, a passionate advocate for community development and youth empowerment, has officially declared his intention to contest for Member of Parliament for Bungokho Central Constituency on the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party ticket. He made this known on Wednesday after picking nomination forms at the NRM Electoral Commission offices, a move that signals the beginning of what he terms a "mission to redeem and transform" his constituency.

Speaking to journalists shortly after picking the forms, Wambedde outlined a clear and people-centered agenda focused on economic empowerment, local government revitalization, and tackling youth unemployment.

“I want to redeem things that had gone bad. I want to help out people to get money through income-generating activities in order to overcome poverty,” said Wambedde.

Economic Empowerment Through Grassroots Initiatives

Wambedde emphasized the need to shift focus from dependency on handouts to enabling constituents to create their own wealth through sustainable initiatives. He pledged to introduce and lobby for government programs that support small-scale enterprises, agricultural ventures, and vocational skills training.

He noted that poverty remains a pressing issue in Bungokho Central, where many families struggle to meet basic needs. By championing income-generating projects—especially in areas like commercial farming, agro-processing, and trade—Wambedde aims to empower communities to take charge of their economic destinies.

“People need to be supported to earn. I will help connect them with resources, training, and markets so that they can generate their own income,” he said.

Advocating for Local Governments in Parliament

Another key area of focus for Wambedde is strengthening the capacity and influence of local governments. He believes that decentralization must be matched with meaningful support and autonomy so that local councils can deliver services effectively and create employment opportunities.

“I will be a strong voice for local governments in Parliament so they can offer more jobs to the locals, particularly the youth. Our people must benefit from the government structures close to them,” Wambedde stressed.

According to him, enhancing the role of sub-county and district administrations in development planning and resource allocation is key to inclusive governance and faster service delivery.

Wambedde’s campaign is expected to resonate with the youth, many of whom face high unemployment rates and limited opportunities for advancement. He proposes targeted interventions such as entrepreneurship hubs, skilling programs, and digital innovation centers that will equip young people with tools to compete in both local and global markets.

“The future of Bungokho Central lies in the hands of our youth. I will prioritize them in every decision I make, because their success is the success of our entire constituency.”

As a loyal supporter of the National Resistance Movement, Wambedde commended the party for establishing peace and stability over the years but insisted that more work must be done to ensure economic transformation at the grassroots. He called on fellow NRM supporters to embrace unity during the upcoming internal primaries and focus on choosing leaders with the capacity, energy, and vision to lead communities out of poverty.

As the political landscape in Mbale begins to take shape ahead of the 2026 general elections, Wambedde Robert’s entry into the race has already sparked interest among voters and fellow aspirants. Many locals, particularly youth groups and farmers' associations, have welcomed his message and vowed to support a candidate who puts development before politics.

Should he secure the NRM flag and win the constituency seat, Wambedde promises to serve with integrity, accessibility, and a relentless drive for transformation.

“My goal is not just to sit in Parliament, but to be an active agent of change, representing the real voices of Bungokho Central,” he concluded.
