Youth Led Pressure Group GRF Launched to Challenge NRM Dominance Ahead of 2026 Elections
A new political pressure group, the Generational Rescue Front (GRF), has officially been launched in Kampala with a mission to rally youth and intensify political engagement ahead of the 2026 general elections.
The group is led by Mr. Kigyambu Robson, a youthful political activist who says Uganda is in urgent need of generational change.
During a press conference held Wednesday in Kampala, Robson emphasized the importance of pressure groups in driving political reform and holding the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) accountable.
“NRM has operated for decades with limited political pressure. To realize true change, we need an ecosystem of active pressure groups that can challenge and demand better governance,” he said.
Kigyambu also revealed that GRF has already trained approximately 60,000 youth across Uganda in civic education, political organizing, and community leadership. According to him, this is part of a broader plan to awaken political awareness among young people, who form the majority of Uganda’s population.
While GRF is an independent initiative, Robson affirmed that the group aligns ideologically with the National Unity Platform (NUP), Uganda’s main opposition party. “We share the same values of justice, equity, and people centered governance,” he said.
Political commentators note that the creation of GRF reflects a growing appetite among Uganda’s youth for change and participation in the country’s political processes.
With the 2026 elections drawing nearer, pressure groups like GRF are expected to play a critical role in shaping narratives and energizing the electorate.
The launch signals a new chapter in Uganda’s political landscape, as young leaders step forward to demand a government that is responsive, inclusive, and accountable.
