Kyagulanyi Unleashes Fauster Bitaano to Crush ‘Disloyal’ Bagala in Mityana Showdown “We’re Taking Back NUP from the Greedy!”

Councilor Fauster Bitaano has officially declared her intention to challenge incumbent Woman Member of Parliament for Mityana District, Joyce Bagala, in the forthcoming general elections, vowing to restore integrity and accountability under the National Unity Platform (NUP) banner.

Speaking during a press briefing at the NUP headquarters in Kamwokya on Wednesday, Bitaano said that Bagala has been of recent and severally accused of straying from the core values of the party, alleging that the incumbent has used the NUP platform for personal political gain, including forming questionable alliances and engaging in acts of corruption.

"The people of Mityana deserve a leader who is grounded in the ideals of the struggle, and not one who has traded our cause for cooperation and personal enrichment," Bitaano stated.

"I am here to reclaim the trust of the people and steer Mityana back to the principles on which NUP was founded."

Fauster emphasized that her decision to contest follows guidance from the party president, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, who she said has urged loyal and trustworthy party members to step up and challenge those accused of betraying the party’s mission.

"President Kyagulanyi has been clear  we must weed out those who have abused their positions. The people are watching, and they want change that is both credible and people-centered," Bitaano added.

The development signals growing internal contestation within Uganda’s leading opposition party as the 2026 general elections approach. Bagala, a former journalist, rose to prominence as a key NUP figure in the 2021 elections, but her tenure has since faced criticism from a section of party loyalists and constituents alike.

The NUP leadership is yet to officially respond to Bitaano’s remarks, but the declaration sets the stage for what is expected to be a fiercely contested primary race in Mityana.

This political race sets an opportunity for NUP to consolidate a more disciplined and transparent leadership base ahead of the national vote.
