Hon. Yusuf Mutembuli, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Bunyole East Constituency, has officially picked nomination forms from the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission, expressing his interest to contest for re-election in the upcoming party primaries. As the nomination process draws closer—scheduled to run from 17th to 30th June 2025—Mutembuli reaffirmed his commitment to transforming Butaleja through targeted advocacy and action.

Addressing supporters and local leaders shortly after collecting the nomination forms, Hon. Mutembuli emphasized the urgent need for a mindset change campaign across Butaleja District, urging residents, especially the youth, to shift from subsistence to commercial farming to secure a sustainable economic future.

"There is a need for a mindset change campaign in Butaleja so that the people here can adopt the changing trends in the world and move from subsistence to commercial farming," Mutembuli stated.

He noted that many young people in the district remain heavily reliant on political handouts, a trend he described as unsustainable and counterproductive. Mutembuli called for massive sensitization programs to empower the youth with skills and knowledge that can help them generate independent wealth and break the cycle of poverty.

"The people in Butaleja, especially the youth, need serious sensitization on how they can create wealth for themselves instead of depending on handouts from politicians," he said. "Government needs to come up with a deliberate strategy to develop our region because of the peculiar situation we face."

A Pledge to Improve Social Services

In addition to economic transformation, Hon. Mutembuli pledged to continue lobbying for improved service delivery in Butaleja, specifically in the sectors of education, healthcare, and general infrastructure. He highlighted that these services are foundational for community development and national progress. "I will also continue lobbying for the improvement of education, health, and standards in the district," he reaffirmed.

Upholding the Core Mandate of Parliament

As he seeks re-election under the NRM banner, Mutembuli reminded the public of the four key roles of a Member of Parliament, pledging to diligently perform them for the benefit of Bunyole East and the country at large:

Legislation – Participating in the debate and enactment of laws to guide national development and governance.

Representation – Articulating the concerns and aspirations of Bunyole East residents in Parliament and influencing policy decisions in their favor.

Budget Approval – Analyzing and approving the national budget to ensure that public resources are allocated effectively and that projects reach underserved communities.

Oversight – Monitoring the implementation of government programs, exposing misuse of public funds, and defending the rule of law and accountability.

A Proven Advocate for Transformation

Over the past term, Hon. Yusuf Mutembuli has positioned himself as a vocal advocate for the people of Butaleja, often raising critical development concerns on the floor of Parliament. His renewed bid comes at a time when the NRM is witnessing an enthusiastic turnout in its internal nomination process, with thousands of aspirants nationwide expressing interest in the 2026 general elections.

As the NRM nomination process begins in earnest on 17th June 2025, Mutembuli has called upon his constituents to support his vision for a more empowered, productive, and self-reliant Butaleja.

"The future of Butaleja lies not in political promises but in practical action—investing in our youth, commercializing agriculture, and holding institutions accountable," he concluded.

Hon. Yusuf Mutembuli’s campaign for re-election continues to gather momentum, with community meetings, youth engagements, and farmer outreach programs planned in the run-up to the NRM primaries. His focus on mindset change and strategic development is set to remain at the heart of his message to the people of Bunyole East.
