In a landmark political moment ahead of the 2026 elections, Hon. Aloysius Mukasa has been endorsed as Rubaga South’s sole NUP flagbearer following the unexpected withdrawal of Habib Buwembo, one of the party’s most prominent mobilizers.

The announcement, made during a packed press briefing in Kampala, effectively positions Mukasa as the unchallenged political heavyweight in Rubaga South.

Buwembo, who now holds the powerful position of National Mobilizer within the National Unity Platform, made it clear that Hon. Aloysius Mukasa is Rubaga South’s sole NUP flagbearer not by default, but by merit.

In his response, Hon. Aloysius Mukasa now officially Rubaga South’s sole NUP flagbearer thanked Buwembo for what he called an “act of political brilliance and maturity.” He praised the gesture as proof that the NUP is driven by vision, not vanity.

“It takes courage to step aside for the greater good, and Buwembo has shown that,” Mukasa said. “But let this also be a message to others still clinging to the dream Rubaga South already has its NUP flagbearer. The people know it. The movement knows it. The race is over before it starts.”

Mukasa also cautioned Buwembo about political detractors who may seek to smear his name, especially now that he holds a high-profile national role. “Stay focused. The truth will always speak louder than gossip,” he advised.

As the political momentum builds, Mukasa emphasized the strength and unity now being witnessed in Rubaga South, describing it as a model constituency for NUP’s discipline and strategic clarity.

“I remain fully committed to the people of Rubaga South.
